First things first. You’ve heard the flight attendants: place your own oxygen mask first before assisting others. Take care of yourself first. There is a reason for this: if you are dead, or even close to it, you are not going to be able to help anybody else.
This holds true on the ground as it does in the air. You need to be a functional human being if you are going to accomplish anything, whether for work or family. You need health and you need energy. You cannot take care of your family if you are a depleted, stressed-out, snarling wreck sobbing on the kitchen floor. For them, and for you, take the time to take care of yourself.
It is essential. Essential. Think of your body as a high-performance machine, a vehicle in which you drive through life. You need to be high functioning if you are going to tackle the very challenging life you have taken on as a working mom. You need to be hitting on all cylinders. If the car is limping along with one flat tire and an empty gas tank, you’re not going to get far. Cars, and bodies, need to be taken care of. Mind your vehicle.
You need exercise, you need nutrition, you need sleep, you need to laugh, and you need a tiny bit of time to yourself.
Look at the menu bar to the right. You will find information on nutrition, exercise, sleep, ideas for activities that you can do together with your family … click on something. Get started taking care of yourself, Mamma. You are the engine that powers your family. Take are of the engine.
