Good morning, Mommy! Happy Saturday!!! I hope you are ready for a wonderful day with your family. And I hope you’ll get a chance to take care of yourself today, too.
I was sick for most of this week. Still am, really. Last night, my husband and thirteen year old son spent some time listening to me cough and honk into a Kleenex, and conjecturing what animal I most sounded like. “Zombie cow” was my son’s vote, while my husband thought something more in the dinosaur line...
So, as you can imagine, it has not been the most productive week for me, and I am trying very, very hard not to feel like a complete failure over that. How can I feel guilty for getting a virus? And yet, I do.
We have such high expectations of ourselves, don’t we?
Well, darling, there may be perfect women out there, but I’ve yet to meet one of them.
If you, like me, didn’t have the week you planned for, give yourself a little grace today. Whatever didn’t go your way this week, let it go. Whatever didn’t get done, it’ll be there on Monday. If you (like me) are awash in a mountain of laundry, you’ll work your way through it today.
Most importantly though, more important that all of the tasks, is that you take care of yourself and that you continue to build your family. Build your family through time together, communication and shared experience. Talk to them. Hug them. Go, do something fun. Candyland, a walk down to the park or the coffee shop. Color together – so simple – trace around each other’s hands.
Because what are we here for really?
In my utterly subjective opinion, it’s not just to be productive, although I cheer on your every accomplishment. We’re here to love. Spend today building some of that.
