Middle of the week. How’s it going out there? Did you get them off to school with a smile? If you did, congrats! If not, tomorrow is another day.
I got my kids off to school on time today. And fed! Wonderful thing, that. Everything worked this morning. Woke up on time, enough groceries in the fridge for school lunches, enough clean uniforms to get everyone dressed with no panic… I love it when it works that way.
Not every morning is so smooth. I cringe and smile at some of our crazed-morning memories. (Dear eldest son… I am SO sorry I made you late for school so often that one year…) Shake my head and voice a silent apology to all my children for the less-than-perfect days.
If this morning was madness for you, maybe try to have a peaceful dinner and bedtime. Maybe remember to put music on tomorrow, that always lifts the mood at our house.
Yes, your life is crazy. But life doesn’t have to be perfect to be wonderful. Keep telling yourself that. Keep your eye trained on the core of what matters. Your every minute and every task does not need to come off to perfection … we are building a whole life here, and lives are messy.
Do they know you love them? Do they know they are important to you? That’s really what it’s all about. That, and giving them a skill set to go out in the world productive enough to buy their own groceries, happy enough to build their own life, and liking you enough that they want to come back home (on occasion) and say hello. That’s it. That’s our job. One crazed morning will not derail that.
Good, not perfect. Mostly good, with lots and lots of love, that’s what we’re shooting for here.
