Good morning, girl. Happy Tuesday. Take care of yourself day. Take a healthy lunch to work. Take the stairs. Take the time to breathe and pray and de-stress.
What is your why?
I watched a motivational video yesterday that I can’t get out of my head. The speaker, Eric Thomas, also known as the hip-hop preacher, said, “What is your why? Is your why stronger than the forces pushing back on you?”
At the time, I was sitting in the living room, trolling the internet instead of cleaning the kitchen. The kids would be home from school soon, and there was nothing in me that wanted to spend a moment in that kitchen. Cold bacon grease, you know, the worst.
But what was my why? Why did I feel that I really should clean the kitchen?
It’s not because I enjoy cleaning. I only ever really clean with passion when I’m mad. It’s not because I particularly need it pristine. I am sadly free from that compulsion. No, it’s because I have a certain kind of home I want to raise my kids in. A certain kind of peace that I want them to be surrounded by.
I got up from my chair and cleaned the kitchen. And the living room. And put away the last of the Christmas decorations that had been sitting in the hallway for so long they had started to gather dust.
It’s a powerful thing, your why.
It’ll get you out of bed in the morning. Why do I want to get up at 4:00 A.M? It’s not because I don’t love my comfy bed and warm husband. No, it’s because I want a certain level of healthy body to move through life in. I don’t want to die early and sick. I want to be there for my kids when they have kids. And because I want the time to come here and talk with you. And because I want the daylight hours for my work and my family time.
What is your why?
Think on that a moment. Then get up and get going, girl. You have a life to lead. And may you lead it with joy, and passion, and strength, today and every day.
