Hey, Mammas! Quick Black Friday check-in. Are you online shopping? Braving the malls? Making your list and checking it twice? A quick plea for calm — remember, you can’t buy happy, no matter what the commercials say. And yes, it is normal to want to buy them everything under the sun and max out your credit card doing it. It is normal to think that if you don’t buy the super ultra latest version of whatever, their Christmas will somehow be ruined and they’ll hate you and they’ll need therapy later in life.
Stuff doesn’t make you happy. And it won’t make them happy if it means that Mamma is stressed about making payments for the next eight months.
(And they’ll probably need therapy for something at some point anyway, most of us do.)
So go easy, sister. They will love whatever it is, no matter the price tag. And they will love you too. Throw in a few homemade Christmas Coupons for “you can stay up an extra half hour”, “tea party!” and “let’s make chocolate chip cookies today!” and you’re golden.
Grab the bargains – as long as they are in your budget. Get they kid’s special thing – as long as you won’t be freaking out about your bills in January.
And keep the meaning of this season in the forefront of your mind as a filter for sanity. Into the darkness, came the light. And he didn’t come to go shopping.
Peace on earth, good will toward all.
With love, love,
